INTENSIVE DELINQUENCY DIVERSION SERVICES (IDDS PROGRAM)
IDDS concentrates on early identification of juvenile offenders with the highest risk of becoming repeat and serious offenders. Based on a research driven model program in Orange County, California, this approach looks at juveniles with a first arrest at age 15 or younger that have at least three high risk characteristics.
IDDS is a state-wide diversionary program developed by the Department of Juvenile Justice. The IDDS Program provides intensive case management services to all 20 Judicial Circuits within the State of Florida. BAYS operates the IDDS Program in Judicial Circuits 5, 6, 10, 12, 13 & 20.
Youth are referred to the IDDS Program by the Department of Juvenile Justice and the court system. Each program youth is assigned to a BAYS IDDS case manager who provides intensive supervision through weekly contacts with the youth, parent/guardian, and school officials. During their program, youth are required to complete community service work, pay restitution (if required), and are monitored by random curfew checks. Services provided to IDDS youth include the following:
• Behavior Management Training
• Self-Sufficiency Skill Enhancement
• Counseling Services
• Education/Academic Assistance
• Non-Clinical Evaluation Services
• Social Skills Enhancement
• Life Skills Enhancement
• Pre-Vocational Services
IDDS youth who complete their program requirements are successfully discharged from the program. The outcome for these youth is that no petition is filed in Juvenile Court for their juvenile offense. Youth who do not comply with IDDS are unsuccessfully discharged from the program which may result in a petition filed by the State Attorney’s office and court handling.
